Aim: To provide a series of fitness and conditioning workshops for Gaelic games trainers and coaches.
The Workshops:
As a result of the very successful practical workshops conducted in November-December 2006 throughout Ireland, the following one day workshops (9am-5pm) will be offered in late 2007 at the following venues:
- 1. 27th October Saturday: Athlone
- 2. 1st December Saturday: Belfast
- 3. 8th December Saturday: Thurles
The workshops are aimed at trainers and coaches at club and intercounty level who want to know more about the physical demands of Gaelic games: Football, hurling and camogie, the common injuries in the games and how to limit these, functional screening of players and corrective exercises and strength, power and speed training drills that are very practical and easy to integrate into training and practice sessions.
The workshop will include:
- Analysis of the Demands of both Gaelic football and hurling by leading trainers
- A simplified Functional screening method for players to identify the players' strengths and weaknesses
- Strength and mobility corrective exercises
- Stability strength and power exercises for all players
- Integrating fitness into football and hurling drills
- Conditioned games
NB: A fourth workshop ''Training The Young Player'' will be held in Dublin in early 2008. Details of this very important workshop will be posted later.
The presenters
The presenters have all strong involvement in the highest level in Gaelic games across Gaelic football, hurling and camogie. They include
- Damien Young: Intercounty goal-keeper and currently researching the time-motions demands of hurling
- Jim Kilty: CEO of SAQ Ireland and Fitness advisor and trainer to Wexford Camogie team and Mayo Gaelic Football team. Former trainer of Wexford hurling team and Tipperary hurling team
- Pat Flanagan: Head of Sport and Exercise College, Tralee Institute of Technology and former trainer to Kerry football team
- Alan Kelly: Physical therapist to leading sportsmen and consultant to several Gaelic teams
- Liam Hennessy: High performance consultant and former trainer of Tipperary hurling team

- A simple Functional screen for players
- Corrective exercises for muscle imbalances
