Energise Sport Announce Fitness & Conditioning Workshops

Energise Sport is delighted to announce, in association with the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) and Setanta College, a series of one-day Fitness & Conditioning Workshops for 2007/2008. The Workshops will be aimed at Gaelic Games coaches and trainers at all levels, who are interested to learn more about the physical demands of Gaelic Games.

Conducted by a team of fitness experts, led by renowned Sport Physiologist Dr. Liam Hennessy, the Workshops will address such topics as common injuries in Gaelic Games and how to limit these; functional screening of players and corrective exercises; strength and power and speed training drills that are very practical and easy to integrate into training and practice sessions.

The announcement comes following the huge success of the first series of Workshops, which took place in 2006 and generated a surge of interest among trainers and coaches alike. The 2007/2008 Workshops will take place in the Marist College, Athlone on 27th October, at Queen's University, Belfast on 1st December, in the Tipperary Institute in Thurles on 8th December and in Dublin in early 2008.

Dessie Farrell, Chief Executive of the GPA said, "The physical demands, placed on players at all levels participating in Gaelic Games are huge. The standard of player's performance is always on the increase and there is an onus on coaches and trainers to have specific fitness and conditioning skills for their players. The GPA very much welcomes the second series of Fitness & Conditioning Workshops which are designed to be highly informative for trainers and coaches at club and intercounty levels and offer them a chance to participate in or observe practical methods of fitness and conditioning."
